The Arkansas School for the
Blind Parent/Teacher Council works closely with administrators and
faculty members to provide support for the educational program.
Even though students from all over the state attend ASB, our
dedicated parents throughout the state find a means by which they
are able to lend support to this worthwhile and hard-working
organization. The fact that every member of the ASB staff belongs to
the PTC is indicative of the significance of the organization in the
total educational program.
At the
beginning of each school year, the PTC assesses the school's needs
and determines which components require financial support. The
board develops a budget and selects fund-raising projects to bring
in the money to implement the budget. Each year the Parent/Teacher
Council under-writes production costs of the school yearbook so that
it will be affordable to all students. The organization purchases
academic, athletic and music awards for students who have excelled
in these areas. Over the years, the PTC has helped with clean-up
projects; and on more than one occasion, has helped with painting
and grounds-keeping. In short, the Parent/Teacher Council is an
organization which is frequently called upon by administrators and
teachers to help where there is a need. The Arkansas School for the
Blind operates under a budget appropriated by the state
legislature. The budget, however, does not provide for awards,
yearbooks and other amenities. Were it not for the work of the PTC,
many of the niceties which motivate students and make ASB such a
wonderful school would not be available to ASB students.
