Discussion Items
A.S.B. Parent Representative – Johnny McGehee
Mr. McGehee complimented the school on their wonderful graduation. He said he also wanted to thank Mr. Hill for all of the wonderful things he has done for all of the students, and particularly his son. He said from all of the parents and himself “Thank You”.
Mrs. Hyneman added that this is her first time to attend the schools’ graduations and she was very moved and impressed with both schools, the kids, and what the schools have done for the children.
A.S.D. Parent Representative – vacant
Ms. Williams said she talked with Ms. (Taco)Williams in the governor’s office regarding the vacant parent representative position, and she indicated that she was pulling the parent representative folder today and that there was one applicant. Ms. Taco Williams asked Ms. Williams if she knew of anyone else who would be interested. Ms. Williams said she told her that the last representative did not move out of town and wondered if he might be interested in the position. Ms. Williams said if anyone knows of someone who could fill the position to call Ms. Taco Williams or herself. Dr. Watson said he talked with Brett Ketchum last week and he has a cousin who is still employed at the School for the Deaf and that is a conflict. Dr. Watson also said the Deaf Community Leadership has talked to several people but they all have conflicts. Ms. Williams said that the position had been offered to a former parent representative and she declined the position. Mr. McGehee said it is his understanding that the representative must have a child enrolled at the school. It was explained that the former parent representative does have a child at the school. Ms. Williams said these positions are appointed for five years and when the student graduates the representative is still eligible to finish their term. She also said the board has been fortunate to have someone like Mr. McGehee to continue to stay involved with the school.
There being no further business of a Joint Nature, the meeting moved to the Agenda for the Arkansas School for the Blind.
