OFFICIAL MINUTES FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING OF THE

ARKANSAS SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND

           

The Board of Trustees for the Arkansas School for the Blind met for their monthly meeting on May 26, 2009.

 

Present: Pam Hyneman, Chairperson; Beth Gray, Vice-Chairperson; Andrew Tolbert, Secretary; Dr. Doug Watson, Board Member; Henrietta Williams, Board Member; Khayyam Eddings, A.S.B. Parent Representative; Janice Vaughn, A.S.D. Parent Representative; Jim Hill, A.S.B. Superintendent; Dr. Marcella Dalla Rosa, A.S.D. Superintendent; Katie Becker, Cheri Courtwright, Interpreters; Amanda Abernethy, Office of the Attorney General; Members of the Deaf Community; Members of the Blind Community

 

09-B-007 Motion to Approve Consent Items

 

Mrs. Hyneman asked for a motion to accept the Consent Items. Ms. Gray made the motion and Mr. Tolbert seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Superintendent’s Report

 

Mrs. Hyneman said that she and Ms. Gray attended the A.S.B. Graduation and enjoyed the ceremony very much and Ms. Gray agreed.

 

Mr. Hill said he and Stan Bryant have reviewed the budget for next year. He said the budget has been set up so that the school can give back $250,000 if the need arises and would be able to handle that cut. Mr. Hill said the school can still operate if this should happen.

 

The students went to Wild River Country and they all had a good time.

 

The new playground was recently dedicated. A significant amount of the money for the playground was received from the Lions Clubs of Arkansas and the International Lions Club. The director of International Lions Club dedicated the playground.

 

There will be 30 students in the Jump Start program this summer and there will be students who will be working on orientation and mobility, social skills, academics and other aspects of learning.

A.S.B. staff recently attended the Arkansas Educational Rehab meeting which was held in Little Rock. This organization promotes items of interest to people who deal with the education and rehabilitation needs of visually impaired individuals. Mr. Hill said it was a very good meeting.

 

09-B-008 Motion to Adjourn

 

There being no further business, Ms. Williams made a motion to adjourn and Ms. Gray seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
