The Board of Trustees for the Arkansas School for the Blind met for their monthly meeting on December 15, 2009
Present: Beth Gray, Chairperson; Andrew Tolbert, Secretary (via telephone conference); Dr. Doug Watson, Board Member; Henrietta Williams, Board Member; Khayyam Eddings, Board Member; Jim Hill, A.S.B. Superintendent; Mike Phillips, Interim A.S.D. Superintendent; Janice Vaughn, A.S.D. Parent Representative; Katie Becker, Zania Musteen, Interpreters; Members of the Deaf Community; Members of the Blind Community

09-B-025 Motion to Approve Consent Items
Dr. Watson made a motion to approve the Consent Items and Dr. Williams seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Superintendent’s Report
Mr. Hill said the school received a $763 grant, which was awarded for excellent in improvement in the elementary school. The money will be distributed to the elementary teachers.
A group of 24 students in the Gifted and Talented classes at Cabot Schools recently visited A.S.B. Gifted and Talented classes.
A.S.B. collected $439 for the Rice Depot.
A.S.B. has a Braille program at Wrightsville at which prisoners copy and make large print textbooks and Braille books for the A.S.B. Recently the school treated the prisoners who are in this program to a Christmas dinner.
A.S.B. participated in a United Way Campaign and $1625 was donated by the staff.

Blind and visually impaired children and their parents were invited to A.S.B. for Cookies with Santa. The children decorated cookies and visited with Santa. The party was sponsored by the Outreach program.
The Gentleman’s Club from Greenville Elementary in Pine Bluff visited A.S.B. and performed for the elementary students. Mr. Hill said he was very impressed with the young men, not only for their talent in singing but also for their good manners.
Mr. Hill invited the board members to the A.S.B. Christmas lunch and also to the Christmas Concert at 6:30 p.m. on December 17. A Parent Appreciation Dinner will precede the concert and will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Semesters tests will be January 13th and 14th.
Mr. Hill said the PreSchool and Kindergarten classes use the community many times as a resource for teaching the students. They take trips to local stores, to the apple orchard, the pumpkin patch and the Toltec Mounds.
There being no further business for the Arkansas School for the Blind the meeting moved to the Agenda for the Arkansas School for the Deaf.
