Superintendent’s Report

PRIDE Program

Mr. Hill: Well, I am happy to report to the board that Marcella and I met and discussed concerns that I had related to the PRIDE Program. As a matter of fact, if you remember, I had some concerns about sex offenders in the program, being in the program, and students who are dangerous to themselves or others, students coming in from other states. Had concerns about having a total lockdown facility on a public school campus and also I had concerns about supervisors, aids being strong enough to control a student involved in activities that present a danger to the other students and had a meeting with Susan Holt and Marcella and I’m very confident that they’re going to come up with some guidelines that will alleviate any possibility of those issues being an issue.

Ms. Williams: OK. Do we know when those guidelines are going to be in place, Marcella?

Dr. Dalla Rosa:  Well, I think, we faxed something to you?

Mr. Hill:  Oh, you did?

Dr. Dalla Rosa: What day was that?

C.J. Jacob: Friday or Monday. I think it was Monday.

Dr. Dalla Rosa: Yes, because we met Monday.

Mr. Hill: Well, it’s quite possible because this week has not been when I looked at my mail.

Dr. Dalla Rosa:  OK.

Mr. Hill: I knew it was coming, but I have not read it.

Interpreter: OK, just to Mr. Hill?

Dr. Watson:  Did you fax it to all?

Dr. Dalla Rosa:  No, it was just, it was just to him, but I’ll give everybody a copy.

Ms. Williams:  OK. Um, then we’ll just leave it at that until you’ve had a chance to look at the guidelines..

Mr. Hill:  Look at it and then any issues that we might…

Ms. Williams: OK.

Dr. Watson: But we could always set in motion guidelines in how to deal with

Mr. Hill:  Yes. My, my, where I come from, coming from, is the fact that without school guidelines Marcella will not have, and she agrees with me, would not have control of the program and would not have the authority I feel she needs to say, this student has to go. Without guidelines it is very difficult to say this one goes and this one stays and that’s my concern. I believe Marcella to have the same beliefs and interests that I do but in order for her to ensure that she has the control, the policy needs to be (inaudible).

Dr. Watson: Good. Very good.

Mr. Hill gave each board member a Christmas gift and each member thanked Mr. Hill for the gift. Mr. Hill thanked the board for giving direction and support to the school.

There being no further business for the Arkansas School for the Blind, the meeting moved to the Agenda for the Arkansas School for the Deaf.
