Superintendent’s Report

Mr. Hill reported that the school received a good report from the auditors. A new policy for use of the P-card has been developed to ensure better accountability when the P-card is used. Mr. Hill thanked Stan Bryant, the business office, and the personnel office for helping keep the school’s records in order.

Enrollment at A.S.B. is close to 100 students and many of the students are in the baby program. The State Assessment report showed improvement.

A.S.B. has received 3.5 million dollars in stimulus money and the bulk of this money will be used for new air handlers, drainage, water proofing and technology. Roof repairs and lighting will be included in the use of the money and Mr. Hill said it will take approximately 1.8 million dollars to replace the air conditioners.  In answer to Dr. Watson’s question if there would be more money coming, Stan Bryant said that hopefully the school will receive $500,000 for discretionary purposes.  Stan also said that A.S.B. has $20,000 in Title VI B money. Mr. Hill said he would let the board know how he plans to use the money before spending the money. The money has to be spent by 2011. Construction will begin as soon as possible after school is out and stimulus money will be used for this construction. Because of the construction, A.S.B. will not have summer school next summer; however arrangements will be made for remediation classes for students who need the classes.

Mr. Hill said the school has gotten off to a good start. The students and staff went on an outing to Pinnacle Mountain and everyone enjoyed the day.

There being no further business for the Arkansas School for the Blind, the meeting moved to the Arkansas School for the Deaf Agenda.
